YOUTH COUNCIL HAS BEGUN!!!
Yesterday, September 9, Bishop McGrath met with the Youth Council for the first time. These young people will be the voice of high school youth in the diocese regarding the state of youth ministry. Bishop gave them their first assignment, but in order for them to complete their assignment they will need your cooperation. Here is how it will work;1.Bishop assigns the council the information he needs about the youth in the parishes; 2.Youth Council members who have been assigned 3- 4 parishes each, send and collect the assignment from the parish contact person;3. The parish contact person gathers the information from the youth or parish staff, depending on the assignment and sends the data back to the Youth Council member which is due October 15;4. The youth council meets on October 24 to decipher and organize the information in preparation for their meeting with Bishop McGrath the following month on November 7.5. The Youth Council meets with Bishop with the re- ports and dialogue with him about the meaning of the information gathered and then will receive their next assignment.6. They will be contacting you this week and their email address will include "DSJ" through yahoo. Please keep watch for this email.WE NEED A CONTACT from EVERY PARISH. Please check here to see if your parish is listed. If not, then we need the parish to send a name and email info to Sandy Velasco Scott:scott@dsj.org. Please send us this info by Friday, Sept 15. If we don't receive a name-we will send the assignment to the Pastor. All communication regarding the assignment will be through email. Our youth council will schedule a visit with each of their assigned parishes during the year! Thank you for your cooperation!
Youth Summit
The (Arch) Dioceses of San Jose, San Francisco and Monterey will be sponsoring a Youth Summit as part of the Faith Formation Conference-November 10. The Youth Summit will be a dialogue with our Bishops and youth from the three dioceses. Those Youth Ministry Coordinators who attended Orientation Day on Sept 7, received hard copies of the cover letter, registration form and the parish resource packet. This is open to all high school youth who would like to attend. However, in order for any youth to attend, their youth ministry group must have processed the parish resource packet so that the young people coming will have the information we need for the Summit. There is only room for 40 participants from each diocese so we will accept registrations on a first come first served basis. For the cover letter, registration form and the parish resource packet please...
