The groups of teens who participated in the Justice Immersion Experience through St. Julie Billiart Parish. They did much to “bridge the gap” between the parishes of St. Julie in San Jose and San Enrique in Tijuana!
DSJ Youth and Young Adult Day—Bridging the Gap
This year’s celebration of Youth and Young Adult Day “Bridging the Gap” will be Saturday, September 16 at St. Julie Billiart Parish, noon-11:30pm. Exodus from Mitty High School, John Grassadonia and Chrism, Lytehouse, Alex Vo with Seraphic Devotion, Angela Aranha are just a few of the bands who will be playing throughout the Day. Cultural performances will be featured and a variety of ethnic cuisines will be available for sale. Game and vendor booths will be set up throughout the parish grounds.
This year we have included workshops on Youth Leadership, Vocation, and The Justice Immersion Experience. The Immersion Experience workshop will include stories from young people who participated in these various experiences this summer. They did a lot to bridge the gap in Tijuana, Arizona, New Orleans, and San Francisco. We will offer templates to interested youth ministry groups, young adults, and parishes who would like to provide these kinds of immersion experiences for their young people and their community.
It is particularly significant that as we celebrate this day in the 25th jubilee year of the Diocese of San Jose, “Rooted in Faith-Embracing the Future”, eighteen young people will be commissioned to serve on the Bishop’s Youth Council at the 5 pm Mass with Bishop McGrath. These young people were not born 25 years ago, but they will be called on to represent their peers in order to “Bridge the Gap” between the present and the future. They will work in partnership with Bishop McGrath and parishes toward the realization of authentic and dynamic ministry with, for and by the Young Church.
ARE YOU A GOOD SPEAKER???
The Diocese of San Jose’s Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is putting together a Speaker’s Bureau!
We are convinced that there are many speakers in our parishes, among our parish staffs and parishioners who have never been asked to be a speaker.
We are asking YOU!!!!
Speakers are needed for youth, young adults, adults and children. Are you interested?
Please send us the following info and let us know what age groups(s) that interest you and what topics you speak on. Some of these speaker opportunities come with a stipend and some do not.
I am looking forward to hearing from YOU!!!!
· An attractive one-sheet containing a mini bio, photo, client quotes, your preferred audience and your most requested topics, etc.
· A demo of a live presentation (Optional)
· Recent references from clients, groups, etc.
· Any samples of books, articles, etc. that you have authored
Blessings
Sandy
