At the end of the month I will be attending our Region 11 meeting in Las Vegas. I always look forward to these meetings with my colleagues in our neighboring dioceses. This year our focus will be on Competencies for Diocesan Directors and the National Adult Conference in Las Vegas-And the Desert Shall Bloom, Nov 30 -Dec 3; I hope many of you in youth ministry have the opportunity to attend. It is good to gather periodically with colleagues in ministry, to pray together, learn together, and celebrate together. It is our hope that what happens at this conference in Vegas this year, will NOT stay in Vegas!
I hope you have a chance to check out my new website. It is all over this newsletter and on the emails I send out, but here is the address anyway: http://sitekreator.com/dsjtyc/ Check it out and send me your suggestions about what info you would like to see and how I can make it easier for you to navigate.

Commitment to this Experience for DSJ Youth
The Tahoe Task Force met on Thursday Aug 24 to discuss the Tahoe Youth Experience-its values, its challenges, and ways to ensure its longevity for the long term. It was a great conversation in which everyone had an opportunity to voice their concerns and their hopes for this cherished event. I will be putting together a board to work with me regarding these challenges. If you are interested in serving on this board, please drop me an mail. I would be happy to hear form you.

Youth Ministry Training
For Volunteers and Interested Parishioners!
We won't have training to offer your adult volunteers until January 2007. For Youth Ministry Coordinators The National Certificate Program sponsored by the Northern California Diocesan Directors will not be offered for the 2006-2007 year. Both of these trainings are on hold due to the lack of numbers for the 2005-2006 year. Hopefully we will offer the National Certificate Program for 2007-2008 with a friendlier schedule and timeframe.
The training that was formerly connected to ILM- will be enhanced for January 2007. I would like to offer a different schedule and training that is interactive, rich in content, and that provides the trainees an opportunity to practice their skills during the sessions. This is currently in development and I will send you details as soon as they are completed.

I am beginning my fourth year in as the Associate for Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Diocese of San Jose, Sept 2, to be exact. It is unbelievable- and I am still excited to be here!!! I have met so many of you these past three years and you have welcomed and supported me into this role--Muchas Gracias! I have added a page to the website, "About Us", that gives an overview of the services available through my office. My work here is grounded in building an infrastructure to support these ministries for the future. There is much to be done, but I am enjoying this creative challenge.
